This is an Oil Temperature gauge type A-24. Green markings are still visible on the glass. These markings were used to indicate proper operation temperatures. These markings were either painted on, or used a green strip and adhesive. This instrument had the markings painted on, as evidenced bu the lack of adhesive tarnish, which would appear yellow surrounding the marks.
The serial number is 42-75545. This matches a serial range for the Republic P-47D-11-RE Thunderbolt. I have doubts about the accuracy of this data, because the P-47 was a single engine fighter, and never employed a dual oil temp gauge.
